Topic: “Trends in Next Generation Transport Networks”
Speaker: Mr James Mao, Vice President and GM of APAC, Cortina Systems

Abstract
Driven by several factors including consumer broadband usage and growth in enterprise services, the Optical Transport market is expect to experience substantial growth. Broadband continues to gain momentum with the fast faced adoption of DSL, Cable, and PON. Video on Demand, IPTV, and online gaming are driving massive investments in the Access, Edge, Metro, and Core Transport networks, both in hardware and network management. This is necessitating the move to higher network speeds such as 40G and now 100G.

There is a need-opportunity to transport, manage, and deliver this mix of services in an efficient and scalable fashion - essentially transforming networks to a full data/packet based network. WDM transport, and now wavelength switching, is making its mark in the Metro. as optics costs decrease and transport technologies (e.g. OTN) are proliferating in the network.

This presentation highlights these trends and how they are transforming the network.<back>
